Tonight SDSM is the winner. He taught another lesson in democracy. Now we can celebrate the successful elections, but from tomorrow we have to roll up our sleeves and get to work. It is our responsibility for everything that will happen in the party, but also in the country, he said tonight Dimitar Kovacevski after the election for president of SDSM.
Kovacevski in the address noted that whenever SDSM is strong and has a clear agenda, the country moves forward.
– That is why we need a strong and united SDSM that has clear goals and energy for their implementation. We are a pillar of the progressive part of the society and the citizens rightly expect us to work dedicatedly and responsibly. Tonight we end with the promises, from tomorrow we start with the realization. Hard work awaits us to restore the trust of the citizens and the membership, said Kovacevski.
He thanked the current president of SDSM, Zoran Zaev not only because he achieved many significant victories in his term, but also because with his courage he motivated and inspired everyone.
– Zaev consolidated SDSM in very difficult conditions, restored freedom and democracy, overthrew Gruevski’s regime with the citizens, established a society for all, brought the country into NATO and brought it to the gates of EU negotiations, did not learn what leadership is “He left us a will to continue the path of democratic development and we will not deviate from that path,” Kovacevski said.
The new leader of SDSM also referred to his program “Together, responsibly and committed” which, as he emphasized, has three key principles.
– We must restore unity in the party, we must continue the social democratic values and build state policies based on them, and for that we will need the best people. A fair chance must be given to all those who have professional capacity – to open the party for new staff both in the country and abroad, which will bring a new mentality in the management of both the party and the institutions. To work together, our country to be guided by social democratic principles, said Kovacevski.
According to him, there will certainly be a place in the party for his opponents, Jovan Despotovski and Frosina Remenski, with whom, as he mentioned, he has excellent relations and has been cooperating for a long time.
Asked by reporters about the Macedonian-Bulgarian dispute if he gets a mandate to form a new government, Kovacevski said that the country is currently holding talks with Bulgaria based on European values and respecting the adopted resolutions.
– We will continue in that spirit. “After four positive consecutive reports from the European Commission, now is the time for the EU to set a date for the first intergovernmental conference and the start of negotiations,” Kovacevski said.
Regarding the new personnel decisions in the Government and the departments, he said that the decision of the party Central Board will have to wait.
– The talks for taking responsibilities in the new government have already started, which means taking certain positions. The proposal of the ministers, ie personnel decisions is made by the bodies of the party, said Kovacevski.
For the party leadership, on the other hand, and its composition, Kovacevski is decisive that staff will be selected who will best reflect the program commitments of SDSM.
