Deputy Prime Minister in charge of fighting corruption and organized crime, sustainable development and human resources, Ljupcho Nikolovski, delivered a video address at the UN General Assembly Special Session (UNGASS) 2021 focused on corruption, which was attended by the countries that ratified the UN Convention against Corruption.
In 2007, the Republic of North Macedonia ratified the UN Convention against Corruption, and its provisions became an integral part of the legal system of North Macedonia. Deputy PM Nikolovski in his address underlined that North Macedonia has proved its strong commitment to fight against corruption by establishing a new position in the new government, Deputy PM in charge of fighting corruption and organized crime, sustainable development and human resources.
“The fight against corruption is a key priority in our government programme and in the government framework named as “Action 21”, and it is the result of our strong commitment to the introduction of a system that delivers justice, the rule of law and proper legal order. Our political will and efforts to prevent corruption is very clear and strong. Through the implementation of the United Nations Convention, as well as through the Government’s Anti-Corruption Plan, we are creating a society in which there is no place for corruption, a society based on rule of law and protection of human rights. And this is our investment in the future, for a better life and for a state with strong and professional institutions,” Nikolovski said in his address.
Nikolovski noted that for the first time, North Macedonia has adopted already an Anti-Corruption Plan, consisting of eighteen measures and politics for crucial reforms and transformation of our society. This Plan is based also on the several pillars-as a digital transformation, new law and mechanisms for checking the origin of property and capital, confiscation of illegally acquired property, transparency, raising citizens’ awareness of reporting corruption, high level of integrity and ethical standards for public office holders. According to Nikolovski, UN Convention against Corruption sends a clear message of the entire international community for a no-compromise fight against corruption, government press service said.
