News of the day: Zaev, Dimitrov and Osmani in online meeting with EU Commissioner Varhelyi
Positive assessments for North Macedonia in the Annual Report of the European Commission was good news, but that is yet another strong reason to work even harder on implementing the reforms and successfully completing the preparations for the first intergovernmental conference in December, was said at the online meeting of Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia Zoran Zaev, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister in charge of European Affairs Nikola Dimitrov with EU Commissioner for EU Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi.
“The identified areas that need additional work, recommendations and guidelines, as always, will be translated into our agenda of reforms, especially in the key areas of the judicial reforms and fight against corruption and organized crime”, stated Prime Minister Zaev at the meeting with EU Commissioner for EU Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi.
The priority of the government for the next period is further advancing the reform agenda in an inclusive manner, by including the opposition in Parliament, civil society and international partners.
The EU Economic Investment Package for the Western Balkans of up to 9 billion euros was assessed as exceptionally significant at this meeting with EU Commissioner Varhelyi, which is mainly for major investments in the infrastructure with a regional impact, intended also for economic recovery of the region due to the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.
EU Commissioner for EU Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi expressed his and the strong support of the European Commission for our commitment to realizing European standards in all areas, and expressed expectation that in the upcoming period all preparations and harmonization will be completed in order for the first intergovernmental conference to be held, which will mark the start of the closing of the chapters for our membership in the EU.
