NEWS OF THE DAY: Zoran Zaev receives Human Rights Award from “Friedrich Ebert”

Zoran Zaev was awarded the Friedrich Ebert Human Rights Award 2020 for, as they themselves stated, Zaev’s determined course of reforms that ultimately led EU member states to start negotiation talks for EU accession of North Macedonia in March, and also the country’s success to join NATO as the 30th member.

“I feel noble and thankful, but at the same time also modest accepting today’s prestigious award from the Friedrich Ebert Foundation. The Foundation that has a hundred-year experience, especially in the field of promoting freedom, equality and solidarity. These are democratic values that have built and continue building civilizational benefits, with the ultimate goal of global well-being, sustainability, transparency and uncompromised fight against every single sprout of authoritarianism. That encourages expression of free will and building one society for all, regardless of whether we speak locally or globally. This award, which has been created at the initiative of highly respected Karl and Ida Feist, and which is inspired by their longstanding struggle and support for workers’ rights and their movement, is complementary to my personal philosophy of life for all, equality for all, dialogue above all, never conflict”, stated Zaev after receiving the award.

STATEMENT OF THE DAY: Maas: We will do everything in our power for start of negotiations by the end of the year

“Germany will do everything in its power for North Macedonia to start EU accession negotiations during the German presidency by the end of the year, said German Minister of Foreign Affairs Heiko Maas in an address at the awarding of the Friedrich Ebert Human Rights Award 2020 to Prime Minister Zoran Zaev.

“Intensive talks are being led for holding the first intergovernmental conference during Germany’s EU Presidency. We will continue working with you like in the past days, as that is our goal, publically proclaimed during our Presidency. We are waiting since March for the formal negotiations to finally start and we are pushing for the first intergovernmental conference to be held by the end of the year”, said Maas.

Precisely the fear, restrictions for protection and security of the citizens, purposely or not, are endangering human rights and freedoms, which leads to intolerance, hatred, hate crimes, and often violence.
