NEWS OF THE DAY: CIVIL panel discussion: “Social justice and discrimination” and “Census: Between politics and statistics”

CIVIL, within the framework of the Freedom Festival, organized two panel discussions. The first titled “Social justice and discrimination: Too many people on the margins of society and politics… Until when?”, while the second one titled “Census: Between politics and statistics”.

The first panel discussion included speakers Mirjana Najcevska, university professor, Elis Shaqiri from Romalitiko and the AVAJA initiative and Ljuljeta Ademi, activist and Disability Advisor to President Pendarovski. The panel discussion was moderated by Dehran Muratov.

The second panel discussion was held with physical presence of participants, by strictly complying to the Covid-19 protection protocols. Participants in the panel included Donco Gerasimovski, former director of the State Statistical Office, Apostol Simovski, current director of the State Statistical Office and Xhabir Deralla from CIVIL. The panel discussion was moderated by Diana Tahiri from CIVIL.

CIVIL ACTIVITIES

Simovski: This census will be specific, it will not be in that traditional manner, we will use a combined method

Gerasimovski: The quality of the census data will meet the needs of the state

Deralla: The census can very easily turn into a weapon for discrediting political opponents

Ademi: In recent years we have become more visible as persons with special skills

Shaqiri: Systematic solutions are needed to solve the discrimination in our country

Najcevska: The state needs to create conditions for equality for all

The State Election Commission informed that until 2.00pm all registered persons positive to Covid-19 or in self-isolation have realized their right to vote at the early elections for Mayor of the Municipality of Stip and the Municipality of Plasnica.  

At today’s 43 session, the State Commission for Prevention of Corruption (SCPC) unanimously adopted the National Strategy for Prevention of Corruption and Conflict of Interest with the 2021-2025Action Plan, which will be submitted to the Parliament where it is to be adopted.

The Parliamentary Committee on Defence and Security at today’s session adopted and will further forward the Draft –Decision on approving the extension of the crisis situation on the territory of the Republic of North Macedonia, for protection of the public health in conditions of a pandemic declared by the World health Organization from the infectious disease COVID-19 caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, and for preventing its greater spreading that endangers the safety of the health of the population.

The General Manager of A.D Post Office, Jani Makraduli, expects from March 1 next year to open the counters of Halk Bank and for citizens to be able to pay their bills in the post office.

 President Stevo Pendarovski today signed the Decree on promulgation of the Law on amending the Law on the Financing of Political Parties, which allows for the funds that were suspended during the state of emergency and used to deal with the economic and social consequences of the health crisis, to be returned to the political parties.
