NEWS OF THE DAY: Citizens receive big reduction in court fees
Minister of Justice Bojan Maricic at today’s press conference said that starting from today the Law on amending the Law on Court Fees enters into force, with which the citizens receive a big reduction in the costs they have in courts.
“We were aware that those costs were high, and people who needed justice many time gave up seeking it in the courtrooms. I hope that will change now, because justice is becoming more accessible to all”, stated Maricic.
Maricic added that court fees have significantly been reduced as of today, and if in the past they could have amounted up to 48 thousand denars, now citizens will not pay more than 6 thousand denars.
STATEMENT OF THE DAY: Maricic: Legislation on protection of journalists will be strengthened
“The Ministry of Justice, and I as a Minister, have many times unequivocally condemned all attacks or any intimidation towards the media and journalists. We already had one working meeting with the AJM and SSNM and with the Council of Ethics, we are open for talks with all existing media associations in the country. We opened these topics that are related to a strengthened legislation for protection of journalists, and overall of media workers, this idea has already been passed on to the group that is working on the Criminal Code or on creating a new Criminal Code in which we have a strengthened legal framework so that there are increased penalties for crimes that are more serious criminal acts committed against media workers. I think that in creating this Law, we will continue to talk with all media workers in order to find a solution that will reinforce the legal framework, but more importantly, also the practice of the institutions for protecting the media and journalists from hate speech or even crimes caused by hatred. Hence, I invite the media associations for us to continue discussing this topic and to find a solution in the Criminal Code, and at the same time to also discuss with the Public Prosecutor’s Office and with the judiciary, as I am sure that on this topic we can also have additional education of the staff in the executive branch, but also in the prosecution and in the judiciary on how to better protect media workers in their everyday work and in facing possible attacks or hate speech”, replied Maricic to CIVIL Media’s question: What will the Ministry do for journalists who are verbally and physically attacked to be protected?
