NEWS OF THE DAY: The need for adopting a legal solution for mandatory retirement at the age of 64 adopted
The Parliamentary Committee for Labour and Social Policy, today in the first reading, debated on the amendments to the Law on Labour Relations that are to provide mandatory retirement at the age of 64 and 15 years of work, which are submitted by a group of MPs. The Committee adopted the need for adopting such a legal solution, and before the second reading, a debate should be held by including all stakeholders, in order to hear their opinions. According to the analyses made by the proposers in coordination with the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, about 6,000 people will reach the retirement age of 64 by the end of the year.
However, as they further clarify, it does not mean that according to the proposed legal changes that all of them will retire, as some of them have already requested extension to their employment. These changes anticipate termination of employment contracts at the age of 64 and 15 years of work, if not regulated by another law.
