NEWS OF THE DAY: Initiative Board convenes VMRO-DPMNE extraordinary congress for replacing Mickoski

The Initiative Board scheduled an extraordinary congress of VMRO-DPMNE on March 28 in Skopje with the following main items – Report on the work performed by current party President Hristijan Mickoski and vote of confidence, announced today the Initiative Board for scheduling an extraordinary party congress.

“The Initiative Board for convening an extraordinary congress after several months of intensive work, managed to provide support and signatures of a great majority of delegates who participated in the election of still current party president Hristijan Mickoski. The respective delegates are unanimous that Mickoski has not lived up to their expectations and has not fulfilled a single one of the promises made for returning the party to the winning paths, for increasing the capacities to coalition and for providing international support”, is stated in the Board’s announcement.

Members of the Initiative Board for convening an extraordinary congress, part of which are former senior officials and current prominent party members, consider that it is unacceptable for the president they have entrusted not to convene a congress and not to try to explain what the reasons are for the subsequent election defeats and catastrophic rating.

The Initiative for an extraordinary congress is neither statutory, nor lawful, is the position of the leadership of VMRO-DPMNE, which was announced today at a press conference by MP and member of the Executive Committee of the party, Antonio Milososki, in relation to the extraordinary congress that was scheduled by the Initiative Board.

STATEMENT OF THE DAY

“I don’t know what astronauts are watching from the Moon and how it will happen, but I claim that there will be no early parliamentary election, because they bring nothing good for the country. And even if there were to be, they will not change anything and can only put the development projects to a standstill”, stated today Prime Minister and SDSM leader Zoran Zaev, according to whom elections should, have to and will take place in the period 2024, when the time comes for the regular parliamentary elections.

“As a country we haven’t conducted a census for 19 years, and If we are the least bit responsible, then we in the local government have no right to fear the obligations for the census, because that data is the basis for creating policies at the local level”, says Mayor of the City of Skopje, Petre Shilegov, at CIVIL’s panel discussion “How the census can be (mis)used?”.

“A successful census for the local self-government means a better-planned infrastructure, well-planned parks, squares, public areas, sustainable transportation, developed local economy, increased energy efficiency and a healthy environment”, says Shilegov.

Dehran Muratov from CIVIL at CIVIL’s panel discussion “How the census can be (mis)used?”, outlined that in absence of a program, some political structures will use the census as a campaign.

“I would reflect on the problem with the less-numbered ethnic communities. I am not saying this to be politically correct, I am not saying smaller communities, because all communities are equal, but the point is – how less-numbered are they? We haven’t had a census for twenty years, we do not know how many citizens there are in the country… We do not know just how much less-numbered are, so to say, one of the biggest communities that are migrating, which are leaving the country.

The website through which citizens will be able to register for vaccination against Covid-19 has starting working from today. In addition to registering electronically on the website for vaccination, registering for vaccination can also be performed through family doctors through the “My appointment” system.

Ruling party SDSM today also demanded a resignation of VMRO-DPMNE MP, Antonio Milososki, for being convicted of crimes in Germany. Milososki, on the other hand, accused that SDSM is behind all of this and claims that it is a matter of spin and disinformation.

SEC President Aleksandar Dastevski brought up again the topic of requesting funds from the Ministry of Finance in the amount of 300,000 million denars for implementing the fingerprint voting procedure. He will demand a meeting with government representatives, if the Ministry of Finance does not approve the funds anticipated for voting using “fingerprints”.
