NEWS OF THE DAY: The enumeration of persons residing abroad, diplomats, prisoners and the homeless starts

The first phase of the Census of Population, Households and Dwellings starts today, with the enumeration of persons employed in diplomatic-consular missions and their families, the diaspora, members of the Army abroad, prisoners and homeless persons. This activity will last until April 21, when the census is to officially end, which will start on April 1.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will implement a media campaign for motivating persons for self-enumeration/self-registration who are abroad: working in the UN and its organizations, representative offices or representatives of chambers of commerce abroad, business units abroad, military representatives of the Army abroad and students and citizens engaged by the Republic of North Macedonia based on international, technical and other cooperation, as well as members of their families / households residing abroad with the mentioned persons. This includes all persons – citizens of the Republic of North Macedonia who on any grounds are residing abroad, regardless of the length of their stay.

STATEMENT OF THE DAY Byrnes: These weapons will strengthen the interoperability, not only with the US, but also with other NATO forces

Byrnes: Thank you Minister Sekerinska and General Nuredin for being here with me today to mark the donation of 1269 automatic rifles worth 1.2 million US Dollars, as support to the Light Infantry Battalion Group. This is another example of how we work together in order to be sure that our forces, when they will fight together, and when they will train together, will be interoperable, and these rifles will strengthen the interoperability, not only with the US, but also with other NATO forces.

And, as we have heard from the leaders, this will be very important and will have influence in further activities. This is one more proof of our long-time defense cooperation, which is further strengthened with the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation in the area of the defence last week, but this is also a commitment of your country for modernizing the Macedonian Army, stated US Ambassador Kate Marie Byrnes at the handing over of the US donation of 1,269 automatic M-4 rifles for the needs of the Army of the Republic of North Macedonia.

CIVIL panel in Stip: The census is statistics, not politics

CIVIL is organizing a panel discussion on the topic “Census: Statistics, not politics“ on March 4 2021 (Thursday), Hotel “Oaza” in Stip starting at 4.00 pm.

In compliance to the measures for protection against Covid-19, the panel discussion will be held without an audience, but will be broadcast live on CIVIL’s Facebook page, while the content resulting from the panel discussion will be published on the organization’s media platform in Macedonian, Albanian and English. Special videos will be published on CIVIL’s YouTube channel. As always, editorials with which CIVIL cooperates are invited to download all media content with an according attribution and link.

The focus of the panel discussion is on the need to separate politics from statistics, as that is what the census is – a statistical operation, and not a ground for ethno-political quarrels. It is important that the public also hears the views of the Stip participants in the panel discussion who, among else, will be given space to also share some basic information on the course of the preparations for the census, as well as its meaning for the development of the municipalities, economy and building politics and practices at the local and national level.

FLASH NEWS

Census – Minister of Justice Bojan Maricic together with Director of the State Statistical Office Apostol Simovski and Director of the Directorate for Execution of Sanctions Marjan Spasovski, today will review the course of the enumeration in the K’shanje Prison in Kumanovo.

Reconstruction – The building of the Universal Hall in Skopje will be reconstructed in its existing form and size, keeping its authentic look as a symbol of the reconstruction of post-earthquake Skopje. Prime Minister Zoran Zaev, Mayor of the City of Skopje Petre Shilegov, director of Universal Hall Philip Avramcev, architect Bujar Mucha from the architectural bureau “Megaron Engineering”, who developed this project, all attended the promotion of the project for reconstruction of the Universal Hall.

Disinformation – The Department for Macedonian Language and South Slavic Languages at the “Blaze Koneski” Faculty of Philology – Skopje is reacting that the claims of the President of the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts, Ljupco Kocarev, who publicly claimed that the Department for Macedonian Language and Macedonian Literature will be abolished, are completely incorrect and are manipulations.

Justice – Zaev: If there have been oversights, there will be accountability for the case with Mijalkov.

Due to isolation of member Ognen Stavrev of the Judicial Council, who has had contacts with persons positive to Covid-19, the hearing for the “Titanic” case announced for today was postponed for March 17.
