Parents of the initiative and Facebook group “There must be classes and textbooks” today held a meeting with representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science, where several points were discussed. At the meeting they demanded mandatory use of hard copy textbooks in primary and secondary education, excluding gender-sensitive education, creating appropriate conditions for children with atypical development, creating protocols for holding classes with physical presence and not merging two or more subjects into one.

The Ministry of Education and Science through a statement says that like for all reforms, they are consulting and listening to the opinion of all stakeholders for the Law on textbooks as well, and that priority is given to quality of teaching in adopting the legal solution.

US Ambassador Kate Byrnes about the next steps of North Macedonia
– The upcoming period will be of decisive significance for the future of North Macedonia as a prosperous ally that contributes to the stability of the region. After the signing of the historic Prespa Agreement in 2018, as well as NATO entry and the green light for EU accession negotiations in 2020, North Macedonia has made an evident step forward. But this step has to be maintained and the chance has to be used even in times full of challenges. We know that in the future there could be challenges, such as corruption, nepotism, even dysfunctional institutions, which hinder the path of North Macedonia towards the goals set, stated US Ambassador in the country Kate Byrnes today in an address at the signing of the grant agreement between North Macedonia and the US.

GRANT With 8.3 million dollars, USAID will help to strengthen the economic competitiveness, reduce the corruption and increase youth participation in social matters in the country. For that purpose, a Grant Agreement for development partnership was signed today in Skopje between the United States and the Republic of North Macedonia. The agreement was signed by Minister of Finance Fatmir Besimi and USAID representative Erik Janovski.

Non-discrimination and multiculturalism in schools
CIVIL held a panel discussion on the topic Non-discrimination and Multiculturalism in Schools, which was attended by Minister of Education and Science Mila Carovska, professor Elena Dzuteska from the Independent Academic Union and Blendi Hodai, President of the Union of High School Students.
The panel was led by Xhabir Deralla from CIVIL.
