NEWS OF THE DAY: The government program “Action 21 – European standards at home!” cleaning up the judicial system is top priority
Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia Zoran Zaev today held a press conference where he presented the projects and programs of the government “Action 21 – for European standards at home!” for 2021.
Ten priorities are included in “Action 21”, of which cleaning up of the judicial system is top priority.
We are in the final phase of deep and essential reforms in the judicial system through efficient and objective cleaning up of the judiciary and prosecution. We have arrived here after a difficult struggle with opponents of justice. For some of them, for Mickoski for instance, we heard several times that they are the only ones on the bumper of crime – we knew that, that is why they were against the Law on the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which we as a ruling majority adopted in the Parliament, stated Prime Minister Zaev.
As a result of that law, high corruption cases are in progress and they are receiving and will be receiving a court resolution. Senior officials, ministers, are already serving prison sentences for serious crimes. Over the past year, about 80 cases have been initiated by the Judicial Council, and eight judges have been dismissed. The processes have begun, there is no turning back.
STATEMENT OF THE DAY: The goal is for the census to never again be treated as a political issue, says Zaev
“We have the goal, with the Draft Law on Census, for this statistical operation now and in the future not to be treated as a political issue anymore. The census will be conducted, not because Zaev said so or because Mickoski wanted so. There will be a census because the development of the country will not be possible without the results from it. Because citizens, businessmen and institutions need accurate statistical data on our population”, added Zaev.
