North Macedonia is celebrating the Army’s 30th anniversary with a ceremony at the Ilinden Barracks on Aug. 18, Day of the Army, informs news agency MIA.
President of North Macedonia and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Stevo Pendarovski, Defense Minister Slavjanka Petrovska and Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Vasko Gjurchinovski will give speeches at the event.
President Pendarovski is set to present military decorations. Minister Petrovska will present the Commander of the Vermont National Guard, Major General Gregory Knight, with an acknowledgment for his support and cooperation.
The event will include a military parade and a presentation of new armored vehicles and equipment.
On Aug. 18, 1943, the Mirce Acev battalion was founded on Mount Slavej in country’s south-west Macedonia, considered the first organized military formation in Macedonia in WWII.
Today, Macedonian Army together with the armies of 29 other countries is an integral part of the largest collective security system after North Macedonia officially become NATO’s 30th member in March 2020.
