Companies in free economic zones have registered exports of nearly EUR 250 million in January, an 8-percent increase compared to December 2021, shows an analysis of the Free Zones Authority.
January exports are on the same level compared to the same month in 2021 and up by 31 percent compared to January 2020. In imports, there is a 15-percent drop compared to December, owed to supply stocking of companies. January imports stand at EUR 204 million, a 17-percent drop compared to the same month in 2021 but 33 percent higher than January 2020.
The number of employees has seen a 1.5-percent rise compared to December, reaching over 14,000.
According to the analysis, 2021 economic activities in the zones have resulted in the highest volume of exports, exceeding EUR 3 billion. In addition, EUR 188 million-worth investments have been agreed, which are set to open 2,700 new jobs. In addition, negotiations are in an advanced stage for further investments of nearly EUR 300 million and over 1,500 new jobs.
