The EU Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Olivér Várhelyi will present on Tuesday the 2021 enlargement package, including European Commission reports on the candidate and potential candidate countries for EU accession.
In his presentation before the members of the Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET), Várhelyi is expected to reaffirm the EU’s commitment to the enlargement process, as long as candidate countries implement credible reforms and adhere to the rule of law, AFET announced.
Each year, the European Commission adopts the enlargement package that will assess the state of play of the accession process and EU-related reforms in the seven countries wishing to join the EU.
Following the Commission assessment of the EU-related reforms in each enlargement country, AFET rapporteurs will draft country resolutions, outlining Parliament’s conclusions and recommendations.
