CIVIL started the project “Together for A Better Future” with the support of The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, to promote multiculturalism and European values in the Republic of North Macedonia. The project envisages various activities to encourage positive changes in the society, and invigorating communities to work together for a better future.

This project builds upon previous projects’ achievements and includes promotion of respect for cultural, ethnic and religious diversity in North Macedonia, with a special focus on the youth, and on the support for the government’s strategies for multiculturalism, equality, and nondiscrimination.

In the months to come, CIVIL will run a dynamic agenda of activities throughout the whole country, and will intensify its cooperation with central and local government institutions, CSOs, media, educational institutions, and decision makers in various areas of social and political life in the country, including political parties, religious communities, informal civic and political groups, and the business community. Most of all, CIVIL will rely on citizens’ support across the country.

Amongst many other activities, CIVIL will organize artistic contests for schoolchildren and a series of local events for general audiences.

Through its media platforms, CIVIL will contribute towards understanding and deconstruction of nationalist narratives, and will propose ways to overcome divisions, and to embrace multiculturalism and European values in the society.

“Our position remains the same. We will continue sending strong messages against nationalism, against divisions and hate. The Macedonian society is multicultural, multiconfessional and multiethnic. This fact of reality is a beauty and a grand potential. Diversity represents potential for prosperity and wellbeing of all individuals and communities in a society that lives in harmony with itself. Diversity drives creativity and increases the chances for success in all spheres in the society, including economy, social welfare, culture, education and many other aspects. And… That is Europe” – organization’s statement on the project’s start.

CIVIL aims to raise awareness on the benefits of multicultural society, non-discrimination and respect for human rights and freedoms, in line with European values. The project will contribute towards improvements in the area of intercommunity relations in the country, and countering the culture of division and hate.

“Our society must counter the radical nationalist tendencies and needs to remain a leading example of multiculturalism in the region and wider. We all need to work together, for a better future, for peace and prosperity. Our different cultures, traditions and languages enrich us in every sense of the word” – organization’s chairperson, Xhabir Deralla said.

The organization remains open and welcomes all contributions, questions, and comments in context of the project.
