CIVIL congratulates December 10, the International Human Rights Day to all citizens of North Macedonia and the world and says: The fight for human rights and freedoms continues!
International Human Rights Day is a call for the involvement of all citizens in an uncompromising fight in defense of human rights and freedoms. On this day, CIVIL calls on the institutions to manifest maximum responsibility and commitment and reminds them that human rights and freedoms are their first and greatest obligation. In the spirit of freedom, solidarity and tolerance, CIVIL calls for respect and protection of human rights and freedoms.
It is the responsibility of every society, of all institutions at the local and national level, of all decision makers, business owners and of all people to respect human rights and freedoms. Everyone has the same human rights and freedoms as everyone else in the world, just because they are human. Human rights and freedoms are inalienable – no one can give or take them away, because they already belong to every human being!
The United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in Paris on December 10, 1948. The declaration stemmed from the gloomy experience of World War II and the need to protect basic human rights. The first article of the Declaration “all people are born free and equal in dignity and rights”, emphasizing that from birth, every person acquires all the rights described in the Declaration.
This year, human rights and freedoms have been under serious threat from the global health crisis with Covid-19. In addition to the right to equal health care for all, in many countries around the world the freedom of speech, the media, the right to timely and objective information have also suffered. The pandemic is still a challenge to human rights and freedoms, pointing to the fragility of humanity, equality and a dignified life.
CIVIL this year, in the name of freedom and uncompromising fight for human rights, and on the occasion of the International Human Rights Day, organizes a Festival of Freedom which includes many participants who have spoken and will speak these days at many events, panel discussions and conferences . Some of the topics are: electoral reform and voting rights, pandemics and infodemics, social justice and discrimination, as well as a number of topics in the field of human rights and freedoms. Experts, civil society activists, senior government officials, media representatives and others are invited to the panel discussions and conferences.
CIVIL today, December 10, the International Human Rights Day, organizes the Conference on Human Rights, Justice and Anti-Corruption “Next Station: Europe” in two sessions, at 12 and 13:30. The first session of the conference is entitled “Justice and Rule of Law”, and the second “Fight against Corruption”.
CIVIL calls on all citizens to mark the International Human Rights Day and together, in an activist spirit, to send a strong message of respect for human rights and freedoms, everywhere and without exception.
One of the key documents that CIVIL is guided by is the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Therefore, it is no coincidence that CIVIL, in the field of civil and political rights, launched an initiative to declare December 10, International Human Rights Day, as Human Rights Day in our country, which will not only be celebrated by civil society organizations, but will be a day of promotion and accountability of institutions and political structures for their efforts and activities for improvement and promotion, as well as active action in the spirit of respect for human rights and freedoms.
