Latest case of child abuse is registered in North Macedonia during the attendance of the President Pendarovski at a wedding ceremony in Galichnik, where a parent taught his child to shout at the President with the words “Never North, just Macedonia”. CIVIL – Center for Freedom strongly condemns the abuse of children and minors for political purposes. Children must in no way be subject to political instrumentalization, be used for sending political messages through them, hiding behind the veil of “patriotism”! Abuse of own children and of all children in general for sending political messages is forbidden by law and is not patriotism!
CIVIL’s long-term monitoring continuously notes cases of abuse of children and minors, especially before and during elections campaigns in the Republic of North Macedonia. That is why ahead of the local elections, or other public events, CIVIL urges:
STOP political abuse, instrumentalization and indoctrination of children! We must not allow the development of children to be contaminated with ideological, political, ethnic, religious, gender or social antagonism and mobilization.
Political abuse of children is forbidden by law! According to Article 12, paragraph 4 of the Law on Protection of Children, abuse of children for political or religious organization and action is prohibited.
CIVIL reminds political parties, parents, the media and institutions that every child, without exception, has the right to a dignified life and to enjoy all the rights indicated in the Declaration of the Rights of the Child and the Law on Protection of Children. They have the right to a carefree childhood, free from daily political events.
Children’s place is outside of politics! Political parties and their supporters must contribute to the protection of children, and not to their political abuse. The state and the institutions have an obligation to enable children a physical, mental, spiritual, moral and social development, a healthy and normal way of life in conditions of freedom and dignity!
CIVIL continuously alerts the public, the institutions, political parties and the media about the abuse of children for political purposes and demands from the institutions to sanction all those who involve children in politics in any way.
CIVIL demands from the institutions to carry out decisive sanctions against all those who will try to put children and minors on their list of activities. This simply has to stop, immediately!
