CIVIL calls for uncompromising action in defense of human rights and freedoms
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

CIVIL congratulates December 10, International Human Rights Day, to all citizens of North Macedonia and the world and sends the message: The fight for human rights and freedoms continues!

This year as well, like in all the previous 22 years, on International Human Rights Day, CIVILcalls for involvement of all citizens in an uncompromising action in defense of human rights and freedoms.

CIVIL calls on the institutions to manifest maximum responsibility and commitment and reminds them that human rights and freedoms are their first and biggest responsibility. In the spirit of freedom, solidarity and tolerance, CIVIL calls for respect and protection of human rights and freedoms.

It is the responsibility of every society, of all institutions at the local and national level, business owners and of all people to respect human rights and freedoms. Every person has the same human rights and freedoms like everyone else in the world, just because they are human. Human rights and freedoms are inalienable – no one can give or take them away, because they already belong to every person!

Equality, reducing inequalities, advancing human rights

The theme of this year’s International Human Rights Day is “Equality, Reducing Inequality, Advancing Human Rights”, based on the common framework for action of the UN system:“Leaving no one behind: equality and non-discrimination at the heart of sustainable development“.

In April 2016, members of the Chief Executive Board of the United Nations System for Coordination committed to putting the imperative to eliminate discrimination and reduce inequality within and between countries. The efforts are in line with the UN to support member countries in the implementation of the 2030Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Universal Declaration of Human Rights, most translated document in the world

Human Rights Day is an international day that is observed to honor the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which the United Nations General Assembly adopted on December 10, 1948. According to the UN, this international document, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), is a milestone in the history of human rights and is embedded in contemporary international law.

This year, on the 73rd anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the theme “Equality, Reducing Inequality, Advancing Human Rights” is inspired by Article 1 of the UDHR:

“All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights”.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is translated into more than 500 languages, which makes it the most translated document in the world.

CIVIL on Human Rights Day with an event dedicated to gender equality

CIVIL this year will observe Human Rights Day with a debate dedicated to gender equality “Between Declarations and Reality”. By choosing the topic of gender equality, CIVIL clearly expresses the positions of the organization and the commitment to truly and specifically overcome the challenges related to gender-based discrimination and inequality.

On this day, CIVIL once again appeals to all citizens and to all institutions at the local and national level, to read the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and to respect human rights and freedoms in their indivisibility and universality.
