CIVIL – Center for Freedom and the Municipality of Kumanovo today signed a Memorandum of cooperation against violent extremism.
The Memorandum was signed by Xhabir Deralla on behalf of CIVIL, and the Mayor of the Municipality of Kumanovo, Maksim Dimitrievski.
“By signing this Memorandum, by Mayor Maksim Dimitrevski, on behalf of the Municipality of Kumanovo, a better cooperation will be enabled of CIVIL with stakeholders in the area of preventing violent extremism and radicalization, and certainly also in regards to the challenges related with terrorism”, stated Xhabir Deralla from CIVIL.
“Extremism as a topic is present in our everyday lives and we are not immune to it. We are all in one way or another extremist in a certain form…but all of that is fine as long it is under certain control. Everything that goes beyond that creates serious problems for all of us as individuals, but also as a society. This is a topic that is being worked on since 2001, but I think that it is the right moment to deal with it more seriously also at the municipal level”, stated Maksim Dimitrievski, Mayor of the Municipality of Kumanovo.
The signing of the Memorandum was followed by the working meeting “Communities against violent extremism”, with representatives of the local government, schools, the police, the civil society sector and representatives of institutions dealing with this problem.
The events are within the framework of the project “Communities against violent extremism”, which is supported by the US Embassy in Skopje.
