Deputy PM for Economic Affairs, Fatmir Bytyqi, met Thursday with the Greek Ambassador to North Macedonia, Roussos Koundouros, for talks on current topics related to the economy, economic cooperation between the two countries, and North Macedonia’s activities related to EU integration.
Deputy PM Bytyqi pointed out that economic cooperation between the two countries is at a traditionally high level, with Greece being the fourth trade partner of North Macedonia, adding that the cooperation has potential to further develop, which is in mutual interest of both countries, his office said in a press release.
Ambassador Koundouros, adds the press release, highlighted the intention of the Greek Government to continue building strong economic relations and promoting bilateral cooperation, while reaffirming support to North Macedonia in implementing the reforms needed for the country’s full integration in the European Union.
“One of the main topics of discussion was cooperation in the energy sector, on which the Deputy PM and the Ambassador agreed there is immense potential given the joint projects for the construction of the LNG terminal in Alexandroupolis, as well as the gas connection between the two countries, which will provide the Republic of North Macedonia with a new source for supply of greener and cheaper energy, and thus an opportunity to become a regional center for further transit and distribution of gas to the countries in the region,” the press release reads.
Deputy PM Bytyqi and Ambassador Koundouros agreed that intensive mutual communication will continue in the coming period to promote the economic relations between the two friendly countries, to ultimately ensure faster and sustainable economic growth and better living conditions for citizens.
