Bulgarian President Rumen Radev said Tuesday his country has prioritized sharing vaccines with North Macedonia and the region.
Radev is in Brussels where he is taking part in the summit of EU leaders focused on the fight against COVID-19 and climate change, MIA’s Brussels correspondent reports.
Speaking to reporters ahead of the opening of the summit’s second day, he said Bulgaria would examine the vaccine rollout mechanism from EU member states to third countries. “The Western Balkans with North Macedonia on the top is Bulgaria’s priority,” Radev stated.
The Bulgarian President on Monday met with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen for talks including North Macedonia, Bulgarian media reported. Ahead of the EU summit, he stated he would ask the EU leaders to show solidarity and understanding of the specific features of each member states.
Day two of the EU summit is dedicated to the fight against COVID-19, the vaccination campaign and vaccination certificates, which are designed to allow free movement in the EU at the beginning of the tourist season.
President Radev warned that the certificates shouldn’t establish fresh barriers and obligations and mustn’t discriminate the citizens of the EU.
