The Head of the European Union Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, stated today that Bulgaria should be more flexible in regards to the issue of EU enlargement to the Western Balkans.
Bulgaria is opposing the entry of North Macedonia, which is a NATO member, to the EU, due to disagreement with Skopje on the language issue.
-I think that Bulgaria should be more flexible on this issue, which is blocking the start of the accession negotiations, said Borrell at an event in Madrid.
Previously this week, at the Brdo summit, the leader of the 27 countries of the European Union pledged membership for the six countries of the Balkans, reiterating their promises made 18 years ago, but refused to determine 2030 as a final date for accession, fearing repercussion in their countries due to migration.
