Minister of Transport and Communications, Blagoj Bochvarski is taking part Tuesday in the Western Balkans Road Summit in Tirana, organised by the Transport Community Permanent Secretariat, informs MIA.
Addressing the summit, Minister Bochvarski referred to the investments in the completion and modernization of Corridors 8 and 10, as well as the establishment of safe and secure transport and the introduction of intelligent transport systems on Corridor 10.
“Introduction of safe and efficient transport system is one of our priorities and includes improvement of road safety, introduction of information technologies and intelligent transport systems in transport sector. One of the major activities of the Ministry of Transport and Communications is setting up Road Traffic Safety Agency that will create, coordinate, initiate and manage activities and measures in the sphere of road safety,” Bochvarski said.
Minister Bochvarski expected that this agency would be established by end of 2022 and in this way, the country would join the EU’s initiative for reduction of number of traffic accidents. “Moreover, we expect to fully implement the intelligent transport systems on Corridor 10 by end of 2024,” Bochvarski added.
The summit gathered transport ministers from Albania, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ministry of Transport said in a press release. At the summit, Minister Bochvarski signed a road declaration committing the Western Balkan countries to creating smart, safe and sustainable road infrastructure, as part of the European Union’s transport network.
The declaration foresees the establishment of a set of measures to increase road safety as well as the introduction of intelligent systems that will ensure a higher level of efficiency of the transport system.
On the sidelines of the summit, Minister Bochvarski met with Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Tomislav Momirovikj and discussed opening of joint railway station and prospects of cargo transport along Corridor 10.
The Road Summit gathered ministers of the Western Balkans in charge of transport, representatives of the EU Member States, international organizations, regional institutions, road companies, and industry representatives.
