Finance Minister Fatmir Besimi met Wednesday with the US Ambassador Kate Marie Byrnes and discussed ways of deepening the economic cooperation between the Republic of North Macedonia and the United States of America, the economic consequences of the Russian-Ukrainian war, as well as current infrastructure projects, MIA writes.
During the meeting, Minister Besimi briefed on budget law whose adoption by the MPs is essential, the Finance Ministry said in a press release.
“The Government, as before, will act as responsibly as possible and in the best interest for protection of the domestic economy and the financial condition of the citizens. We are closely monitoring the developments and developing adequate scenarios for possible outcomes,” Besimi said.
He also informed the Ambassador Byrnes about the set of measures that will be implemented in the coming period in order to improve the standard of living of the people and the competitiveness of the domestic economy.
Minister Besimi expressed his gratitude for the continued support of the US Government to the Government of North Macedonia in implementing activities directed towards economic growth and stability as well as strengthening democratic practices of the institutions.
Ambassador Byrnes reaffirmed the US commitment to further support strategic partnership, and said that the rule of law and the fight against corruption will be key factors in improving the business climate and achieving strategic goals for faster, sustainable and inclusive growth.
The United States of America is one of the most important strategic partners of the Republic of North Macedonia. The excellent political relations between the two countries should encourage deeper economic cooperation in the near future.
Gratitude for the support of the Republic of North Macedonia, which as a NATO ally, joined the call for a cessation of hostilities in Ukraine was expressed during the meeting, which provides opportunities for strengthening future cooperation with the United States.
