We decided to freeze the prices of basic food products in order to limit the effect on the people’s expenses, especially in a time of energy crisis and considering that electricity prices could directly or indirectly impact the rise of prices in production and trade, be it wholesale or retail, said Economy Minister Kreshnik Bekteshi on Sunday.
Minister Bekteshi said the decision means that the prices of bread, sugar, flour, cooling oil, milk, fresh meat and meat products, cheese will be sold at the prices as of December 1, whereas the list could be enlarged if necessary. “This will depend on next week’s data from the State Statistical Office. These decisions are taken in the people’s interest and their living standard,” added Bekteshi.
He said solidarity was paramount in a time of pandemic and energy crisis, shown through lower margins in production and trade, while the state is prepared to cooperate with all stakeholders in the economy in line with its capacities. The prices of the basic food products will be frozen until 31 January 2022 and the decision could be extended if required.
