Minister Bekteshi said the situation is closely monitored and does not expect sharp price hikes in the household sector.
“The current electricity production price of Power Plants of North Macedonia (ESM) stands at EUR 36 per MW and we will do everything in our power to keep it. Measures are already undertaken by the ESM leadership to increase output in Bitola and Oslomej thermal plants and I expect production to almost double by the end of the year,” Bekteshi told reporters.
Asked about the activation of Negotino thermal plant, Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) President Marko Bislimoski said analyses are made regarding this move, since the plant’s production price depends on the crude oil price. “Unfortunately, oil prices are currently on the rise at world markets. We will use this scenario only if there is economically viable,” said Bislimovski.
He urged for an end to speculation that household electricity prices would increase by 50 percent at the onset of 2022.
“There is no need to panic and the Government, ERC, ESM and Electricity Transmission System Operator of the Republic of North Macedonia (MEPSO) will do everything at their disposal,” said Bislimoski and added that the country has already undertaken a large portion of the measures that the European Commission has recommended to member-states to protect the economies from electricity price shocks.
