NEWS OF THE DAY: Law on Public Prosecutor’s Office
“If a two-thirds majority is not reached for the Law on the Public Prosecutor’s Office, then a solution for the SPO will be sought through changes of the Law on the Council of Prosecutors, which is adopted with 61 votes”, announced Minister of Justice, Renata Deskoska, after the parliamentary session at which the Law on the Public Prosecutor’s Office ended.
The Parliament confirmed the need of adopting the Draft Law on the Public Prosecutor’s Office in a shortened procedure, which law is supposed to solve the future status of the Special Prosecutor’s Office. 57 MPs voted in favour of the law. This starts the debate on this draft law in the parliamentary committees.
Following the voting on the decision for the Draft Law on the Public Prosecutor’s Office to be adopted in a shortened procedure, Antonio Miloshoski from VMRO-DPMNE said that the biggest political and judicial scandal has taken place during Deskoska’s mandate and demanded her resignation. Deskoska rejected the demand.
Session of the Council of Public Prosecutor’s for the “Racket” case and Katica Janeva
Today a session was held at the Council of Public Prosecutors where the head of the Prosecutor’s Office for organized crime and corruption, Vilma Ruskoska, was summoned, who was expected to explain the reasons why special public prosecutor Katica Janeva is suspected for the “Racket” case.
“I presented the evidence we have until now, statements of witnesses, minutes of criminal charges, recorded conversations… I replied to all questions. They have been left to inspect the case”, stated Ruskoska after she left the session of the Council.
As to the question if there is truth in all that has been said in the public about what the second page of Kamcev’s statement contains, among else also the names of involved politicians in the case, Ruskoska said that it is absolutely a matter of misinformation from certain media.
Fire near Lake Mladost in Veles
Late last night, around 10.30 pm, a large forest fire was extinguished near Lake Mladost in Veles, which, after 11 hours of raging that threatened to engulf the surrounding neighbourhoods, burned an area of 400 hectares, of which half was pine forest and 200 hectares under dry grass. According to information from the Territorial firefighting unit in Veles, one pig farm and one weekend house had burned down in the fire.
Experts indicate that the consequences are substantial and that many years will have to pass for the pine forest that was voluntarily planted 50 years ago by the Veles people to be revitalized again. The police arrested four people last night working with an electric tool, on the suspicion that they caused the fire from a spark on the dry grass, which quickly spread and engulfed a large area.
