Katica Janeva arrested for 5.000 euros in the “Racket” case
The police, upon the order of the Prosecutor’s Office, arrested Special Prosecutor Katica Janeva for the “Racket” case. Members of the police previously searched Janeva’s home in Skopje and Gevgelia, and also searched Janeva’s office in the SPO, from where her office computer was take away.
Prosecutor Joveski requests detention for Janeva
“The public prosecutor has been suspected of abuse of power, for which the Prosecutor’s Office will propose detention”, stated prosecutor Ljubomir Joveski, at a press conference after the arrest of Special Public Prosecutor Katica Janeva.
“Janeva, together with the other two suspects in the “Racket” case, has received “significant material benefits” and “items and furniture in the amount of 298 thousand denars”, said Joveski.
Ruskovska: Politicians have not been arrested for the “Racket” case
Prosecutor Vilma Ruskovska stated that the Prosecutor’s Office for organized crime has not issued a warrant for the arrest of two politicians, as some media have reported.
“Perhaps it concerns another prosecution, another case. From the Prosecutor’s Office for organized crime there is no such warrant”, stated Ruskovska at a press conference following the arrest of Special Public Prosecutor Katica Janeva.
Reactions following Janeva’s arrest
The first reactions from political parties have arrived after today’s arrest of Special Public Prosecutor Katica Janvea, who is suspected for “abuse of power”.
SDSM considers that building an independent judicial system shows the real results and that the legal state is functioning in a non-selective manner for all.
From VMRO-DPMNE, on the other hand, they say that today “the career for Zoran Zaev’s first collaborator, Katica Janeva, has ended”.
