An army helicopter has been deployed to help extinguish a raging fire between the Berovo villages of Mitrashinci and Budinarci. Crisis Management Center director Stojanche Angelov told MIA the helicopter, conditions permitting, would aid firefighting efforts.
The flames broke out late in the afternoon and got out of control. More firefighting aircraft will be sent on Friday, Angelov said. Berovo Mayor Zvonko Pekevski said a drone was surveying the area to see which direction the fire was spreading, as it was burning in inaccessible, mountainous terrain.
A few hours ago, Pekevski called on volunteers to help contain the fire. He said the fire was suspected to be arson and a fire inspector was already interviewing locals.
