The State Commission for Prevention of Corruption has opened a case into the procurement of a software by the former government secretary general, it was confirmed Wednesday.

“Following media reports, earlier today we opened a case believing there are enough elements to look into the reasons why the software was procured and why it isn’t being used still,” Biljana Ivanovska, head of the anti-corruption commission, said answering a journalist’s question after touring the commission’s new offices together with Deputy PM Ljupcho Nikolovski, who is in charge of the fight against corruption.

He said that the government by the end of the day will reveal all available details involving the procurement of the software by an ex-government official.

The software in question was designed for traffic violations for the Interior Ministry, which was procured last year by Dragi Rashkovski.

Earlier in the day, PM Zoran Zaev said that there is written communication between the government’s general secretariat and the Interior Ministry.

“I know it was done for a reason. Why would we even order a software if there are no reasons at all. I believe it can still be used as part of road safety,” he told reporters, adding that companies from North Macedonia participated in a tender projected at 8 million denars.
