The Balkans are full of weapons, there are dealers who do illegal arms trade. The procedures for getting a firearms license are too difficult and do not correspond to the conditions in which we live today, says Dejan Andonovic, journalist, editor, analyst, for CIVIL.
“If you inherit weapons, but do not have a license, you need to legally report them to the nearest police station, to hand over the weapons. Why hand over personal property? If I don’t hand over the weapon that has remained in my drawer that is inherited from relatives, it will be considered an illegal weapon. And I believe that many families in Macedonia have that problem and that is a paradox, instead of facilitating the procedure for owning weapons, instead of for carrying one. They tell you to return the weapon to the MoI and then you need to take an exam for that weapon, and in order to pass the exam you need to finish an entire faculty”, outlines Andonovic.
