CIVIL hosted an online conference on “Perspectives of the circular economy in conditions of war and insecurity”, as part of the Week of Circular Economy in the Western Balkans, 2024, on 31 of May 2024.
Representatives of civil society organizations from across the Western Balkans, predominantly members of the LogEx community, such as Gazmend Bërlajolli, Executive Director of The Balkan Forum from the Republic of Kosovo, Valon Murati from Universum University in Kosovo, Evgenija Krstevska, Program Officer, HELVETAS, and Anjeza Sinani from the Build Green Group in Albania, participated in the conference as speakers, as well as Ms. Diana Tahiri and Mr. Dragan Mishev from CIVIL. They shared insights on their activities and the perspectives of the circular economy within national, regional, and global contexts.
Xhabir Deralla, the president of CIVIL moderated the conference and presented his summarized insights from the analysis paper “Circular Economy Perspectives in Times of War and Insecurities“.
Impact of the Russian aggression against Ukraine: Ecocide; Impact of Conflicts on Green Transformative Policies and Practices; Policies and Strategies for Mitigating the Impact of Wars and Conflicts on Green Initiatives; Strengthening the Circular Economy: Five Key Strategies for Resilience – these are the chapters of the analysis that was presented in a sublimated way by Deralla at the conference.
This year’s theme for Circular Economy Week was “Sustainable Bridges: Unite, Uplift, Upcycle,” wich took place from May 27 to 31. Organizations from the Western Balkans, members of the LogEx community, organized a multitude of parallel activities to promote good practices and knowledge related to the challenges and perspectives of the circular economy in the region.
