Ambassador Anke Holstein says Germany worked on the adoption of the negotiating framework with North Macedonia to the very end.
“The German Presidency discussed all proposals on the table and worked on the adoption of the negotiating framework with North Macedonia and start of the EU accession negotiations to the very end,” Ambassador Holstein told Alsat-M TV in response to the statements from the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs that Germany had failed to put their demands for the negotiating framework on the agenda of the EU ministerial meeting.
According to her, it is not her job as Ambassador to North Macedonia to comment on statements from a neighboring country.
“I can assure you that the German Presidency discussed all proposals for a solution that were put on the table, and worked for the adoption of the negotiating framework until the very end. Our proposals for the text were broadly supported but did not come across consent from all member-states. The German Presidency is convinced that the EU must keep its word, given in March, because only a credible EU perspective guarantees the region’s stability,” says Holstein.
