We’re all very committed to finding solutions that will lead to opening of North Macedonia’s accession negotiations as soon as possible, EU Ambassador David Geer said Monday in response to a reporter’s question on whether the Portuguese proposal to unblock the country’s European integration process will also be considered during the Slovenian EU Presidency.
“We value the efforts to resolve the unresolved issues between North Macedonia and Bulgaria. This is really important and it’s something we’re calling for in terms of opening the negotiations. Here I can reiterate what the EU leadership says – we hope that negotiations will open as soon as possible,” Geer said.
Asked to comment on the rhetoric of some Bulgarian politicians, as well as a Bulgarian MEP regarding North Macedonia, Geer said that when it comes to good neighborly relations, it’s important for politicians to refrain themselves when giving statements.
“As for remarks made by certain politicians of other countries and MPs of member states, I won’t comment on that, it’s not in my practice. But it’s important to refrain whenever it comes to good neighborly relations,” EU Ambassador David Geer said during Monday’s press conference on signing EUR 100 million agreement with EIB to support SME’s in North Macedonia.
