State Commission for Prevention of Corruption President Biljana Ivanovska said that the anti-corruption strategy is a key document after Parliament adopted the new law on the prevention of corruption and conflict of interest. The government’s anti-corruption action plan, according to her, is aimed at strengthening of the capacities of the institutions tasked with implementing the national strategy.
“Fight against corruption is very difficult and far-reaching, which requires all sides to be involved. All activities should be designed so as to eliminate corruption,” Ivanovska told Slobodna TV’s morning show on Wednesday
According to her, the national strategy was prepared in a transparent way, which contributed to the document being accepted by all institutions.
The Commission, Ivanovska said, is communicating with the institutions and should follow the realization of planned activities. The Parliament’s Committee for Political System by the end of the year will hold a hearing allowing the anti-corruption commission to report on its activities, she announced.
“We feel that changes are happening, but I think things are moving slow. The anti-corruption commission has a preventative role, to identify the systemic weaknesses and to put forward recommendations. We have proposed a lot of recommendation so far, but only a few have been implemented. 19 laws have been analyzed, the weak spots have been detected, however, not a single one has been changed. In order to change this, the second part of the strategy needs to be enforced,” Ivanovska said.
