Parliament

Today the 98th session of the Parliament of the Republic of North Macedonia continues, at which MPs are discussing the draft laws on value added tax and on employment and insurance against unemployment, both in first reading.

The President of Parliament, Talat Xhaferi, yesterday, after the general debate ended on the Draft Law on Employment and Insurance Against Unemployment in first reading, interrupted the work of the session and postponed the voting for today because, as he said, there is no quorum due to the work of several parliamentary committees.

NATO mission

This morning, air crafts of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Greece carried out a test flight over the airspace of the Republic of North Macedonia. The flight was performed for the needs of the NATO mission “Air Policing”.

The overfly has the purpose to check the communications and radar coverage of our aviation space.

Anti-corruption

The President of the State Commission for Prevention of Corruption, Biljana Ivanovska, urged for false reports not to be submitted in order to disqualify political opponents, as easy acceptance of false reports is putting the commission in service of party quarrels with slanders.

Reforms

The leader of the Democratic Union for Integration, Ali Ahmeti, again suggested for MPs and officials performing public duties to go through a vetting process in order to have the manner in which they have acquired property checked. According to Ahmeti, attacks on MPs and officials and spreading of false news will be prevented through this system of verification.

Criminal proceedings

The External Office for Criminal Offences of the PS from Prilep filed a criminal complaint to the Public Prosecutor’s Office Prilep against businessman Ljupco Palevski and for three other persons for criminal offence “unauthorized wiretapping and sound recording”. The criminal offence comes after on April 4, during the election campaign, they organized a small gathering in Prilep where several wiretapped conversations were released. In the conversations, voices of current and previous officials could be heard.

Cultural heritage

UNESCO, in its latest report, recommends for the natural wealth of Ohrid to be put on the list of world heritage in danger. Such a reaction comes after a series of platforms of cafeterias have made their way into the lake, after the announcements for the construction of Galicica, the hotel in Lagadin, which is being built on the very coast, as well as the constructions in the entire region, which is protected treasure. UNSECO delivered a number of requests from the state, and among the first is for a moratorium to be declared on all urban transformations on the coast of the Ohrid Lake, as well as any other urban transformation.
