The state does not need early elections, but it needs to solve the problems it faces, said today the president of DUI, Ali Ahmeti at the New Year’s Eve meeting with journalists at the party headquarters in Mala Recica.

Regarding the dispute with Bulgaria, Ahmeti said that if we want to have a stable situation, sustainable and advanced in the direction of Euro-Atlantic processes, “it is necessary to resolve the differences we have with the Bulgarian side regarding the Good Neighbor Agreement.”

– I think things are close. So far, we have had in mind the difficulties that Bulgaria was facing, with the elections, with the delay in the constitution of the new Government and the Assembly. I think the differences are close. Our international partners who are interested in the functioning of peace, stability and security in the Western Balkans and especially in our country have helped us to bring the differences closer. “I hope that this issue will be resolved in the coming days or months, but on the condition that neither our nor the Bulgarian authorities politicize and insert emotions because it is a topic that is in itself an emotional issue,” he said. Ahmeti.

He stressed that the Bulgarian side had previously emphasized the request for the Bulgarian minority to be included in the country’s Constitution and that this issue has now been harmonized.

– We accept to make this change and acceptance of the Bulgarian minority, which is the right of everyone to express themselves as they feel. This principle has worked and will continue to work, added Ahmeti.

Regarding the language, Ahmeti stressed that the constructiveness of the two countries will help resolve this dispute, emphasizing that the solution formulated in the Agreement with Bulgaria is acceptable, pointing out that Albanians are in solidarity with their fellow Macedonians to resolve this dispute and overcome to these differences, because “we have common interests”.

– There are no negotiations that are easy. All processes go through difficult paths and with differences between the parties, but it is important that there is a constructive dialogue between the parties and good will and that instills confidence that in the future there will be an acceptable solution. I believe that my fellow Macedonians, as a Macedonian would defend their interests, we also defend them, because we have a common goal, a common stable state, future and vision for our country to be an advanced and functional democracy and fully integrated into EU and NATO, said Ahmeti.

When asked about starting a vetting, Ahmeti said that it should not be left only to statements in the media, but to carry out specific acts and responsible positions in politics, courts, prosecutors and police to be people with a clear biography.

– We have talked to the media, to civil society, and that should start with politics, the judiciary, the police and not just stick to statements, but work concretely. To be coordinated and harmonized to have success. In all advanced countries, both in the United States and in Europe, there are thousands of officials who are imprisoned, while in our country politicians and officials are a minority in prisons, said Ahmeti.

Regarding the country’s European perspectives, Ahmeti pointed out that there are destructive forces working against EU membership, pointing out that they are the same forces that were against the Ohrid and Prespa Accords and the Agreement with Bulgaria, but external factors are intertwined, such as what are the Russian and Chinese influences.
