The Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs denies reports that Denmark supported Bulgaria’s veto for the start of the EU accession negotiations with North Macedonia, the Ministry has said.
“Reports released in Bulgarian media outlets claiming that Denmark has joined Bulgaria’s veto for EU accession negotiations with North Macedonia are fake. Denmark supports the current proposals of the European Commission regarding the negotiating framework for Albania and for North Macedonia and has made this very clear at all relevant forums. Denmark is ready to accept these negotiating frameworks,” the Danish Foreign Ministry has said, reports sdk.mk.
In addition, the Ministry has pointed out that Denmark supports the European perspective of all Western Balkan countries.
“In this regard, Denmark supports the start of accession negotiations with Albania and with North Macedonia, once requirements of the March 2020 General Affairs Council are met,” the Danish Foreign Ministry has added.Earlier on Friday, the Embassy of the Netherlands in North Macedonia denied a news article released by the Bulgarian newspaper 24 Hours, citing diplomatic sources in Brussels, claiming that Denmark and the Netherlands were the two countries to support Bulgaria in blocking the start of EU accession talks with North Macedonia.
