Parliament’s Committee on European Affairs chairman Arber Ademi met Thursday with the EU Ambassador David Geer and shared views on the current European integration issues in the light of the latest developments after the EU Council failed to adopt a decision on holding of the first EU-North Macedonia intergovernmental conference last year during the German EU presidency.
According to the Parliament’s Committee on European Affairs, in that respect, Ademi said that efforts are being made for a positive step forward during Portugal’s EU Presidency.
“The country remains committed to the European agenda and in that direction the Parliament and the Committee on European Affairs are actively involved in the implementation of EU reforms,” Ademi noted.
Ademi referred to the Parliament’s Committee work, emphasizing that as chairman he advocates for transparent work together with the opposition, aimed at harmonization of the laws with the European legislation to be adopted by consensus of political parties.
According to the press release, EU Ambassador Geer stressed the importance of the role of the Parliament and the Committee on European Affairs in the country’s EU accession process, as the main bloodstream in the realization of the adoption of European legislation.
In that respect, stressing his support on the road to the EU, he expressed readiness of the EU Delegation in Skopje to provide support in the implementation of EU reforms.
He also referred to the financial assistance within the Economic Investment Plan adopted by the European Union, as a strong signal of the EU’s commitment and support for the economic progress of the Western Balkans region.
