We are on a good path of reaching a mutual solution regarding a problem that has been ongoing for three decades and concerns many citizens who live, work and pay taxes in the country, said Alliance for Albanians leader Ziadin Sela after a meeting focusing on the Law on Citizenship with Prime Minister Zoran Zaev on Monday.
“I believe that a solution to this issue will be a good move for the country. As a coalition, we believe that the country’s image and building its democratic capacities is part of this process. A country’s democracy is assessed by the degree of the human rights’ respect. The settlement of the issue for these citizens moves us forward towards the civilized states, to the family of countries we aspire to join,” said Sela.
Alternativa leader Afrim Gashi agreed and said there is progress in the talks, adding the coalition’s optimism that a solution would be reached in the coming days.
“Both we and the authorities want to see standards as applied in most developed European countries. We want a Law on Citizenship founded on high European standards, supporting the settlement of this long-standing problem,” noted Gashi.
He urged VMRO-DPMNE and Levica to support the law.
“Since the solution to this law is close, and VMRO-DPMNE has interest in adopting the laws related to the fifth set of economic measures, we urge them to withdraw the amendments to the Law on Citizenship and we will do the same for the anti-crisis measures,” added Gashi.
