The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release that as of Tuesday, five Macedonian nationals in Gaza have expressed an interest to return to the country, writes news agency MIA.
“Apart from the married couple, for which we already had information, our Embassy in Cairo was contacted by a family – a father and two children, all Macedonian nationals. Travel documents have been issued for the children for their return to North Macedonia, while the relevant institutions in Cairo and Tel Aviv have said that all five nationals have been placed on an evacuation list, and are currently awaiting a decision for the opening of the Rafah border crossing,” said the MFA.
Additionally, added the Ministry, the two embassies of North Macedonia, in Cairo and Tel Aviv, are in constant communication with the Macedonian nationals who are currently safe.
The opening of the border crossing depends on the situation on the ground, and the crossing is currently closed.
“In the meantime,” said the Foreign Ministry, “we are working to identify and collect information on other possible Macedonian nationals who could be stuck in Gaza.”
