(SELECTION) Albanian media: In Albania, school year starts with national anthem, violence against media workers a big challenge, 32 years since the demolition of the bust of Enver Hoxha

Students in schools across Albania have started the week by singing the national anthem, as was announced some time ago, and as one of the biggest challenges in the country. According to Jamie Wiseman from the International Press Institute, the number of cases of police violence against media workers is worrying. This is just part of today’s selection by the Editorial Office of CIVIL Media from the content of Albanian media in the region.

ALBEU: New tradition, school year starts with the national anthem

“Every Monday, classes in Albanian schools start with the national anthem.

This is the new tradition, which has started to be applied in schools in our country.

Prime Minister Edi Rama posted a video on Facebook with the new tradition where students start the week by singing the national anthem”, reports Albanian media outlet Albeu.

DW: Limiting the space for obtaining information remains a major challenge in Albania

“Limiting the space for obtaining information further remains a major challenge for the media in Albania, says Jamie Wiseman from the International Press Institute, IPI in an interview for Deutsche Welle.

According to him, the number of cases of police violence against media workers is worrying, which make up 7 of the recorded 17 cases (41%).
