(SELECTION) Albanian media: Serbian politicians in Kosovo between two fires, the trial for former KLA leaders will be a marathon
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The tension on the Belgrade-Pristina line still lasts. Kosovo Serb politicians are under strong pressure from Belgrade. They complain that they are being called traitors and that they are suffering various pressures. Some Kosovo analysts anticipate that former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army are to face marathon trials in The Hague. This is just part of the selection of CivilMedia’s editorial office on topics from Albanian media in the region after the New Year’s holiday.

BALKANWEB: “We are moving between two fires”, Serbian politicians in Kosovo: They call us traitors!

“Imagine a person walking on a thin wire and in order not to fall, holds a long stick in order to keep balance. In the meanwhile, the wire on both ends keeps getting thinner and thinner”.

This is how Nenad Rasic, Minister for Communities and Returns, in the Government of Kosovo, described the activity of Kosovo Serb politicians, who, as he says, don’t think the same as the Serbian or Kosovo government, reports BalkanWeb.

ZERI: The trial against Thaci and others is expected to start in March

“Former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army Hashim Thaci, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Redzep Selimi have been in custody of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague for two years now.

The Kosovo Institute of Justice says that by April the latest, it is expected to start with the introductory statements, reports Kosovo daily ZERI.

JAVA NEWS: Berisha is comparing politicians with animals: Meta “bear”, Brace “grasshopper”, Alibeaj “insect”, Rama “long-eared”, me “eagle”

“Leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, these days gave an interview with humorous tones in the show ‘Klanifornia”

They asked Berisha to compare different politicians with animals, among which he mentioned former DP leader Lulzim Basha as an ‘invertebrate’, Alibeaj as an ‘insect’, and Ilir Meta as a ‘bear’”, is said in the Albanian media outlet JAVA NEWS.

KDP: Academician Abdulmenaf Bexheti: 2023 will be difficult, but there is room for optimism

“The consecutive crises in the last three years, without overcoming the COVID-19 one, which as such entered into the inflation crisis that culminated with an energy crisis and the collapse of the global supply chain, challenged even the science of economics, not just in relation to the time of duration and depth, but also in relation to the two-way ‘shocks’ at the same time, both on the supply side and in the demand side. The economic theory, for almost a century (since the Great Depression),has not known of shocks of this nature”, an excerpt of the analyses of Academician Abdulmenaf Bexheti published in KDP.

BOTA SOT: Why is the demagogic patriotism of the leader important?

“The Kosovo society has a strong, submissive national awareness, but at the same time is struggling with an identity crisis. Many people feel that the basis of our democracy, the history of who ‘we’ are, is under pressure. There are many reasons for that, globalization of the economy, which is increasingly more disconnected from local communities that provided it with moral and institutional frameworks; discovering traditional role and relationshipmodels that support identity, and also creating large groups of people with different cultures, values, opinions and loyalties…”, an excerpt of the column “Why is the demagogic patriotism of the leader important?”, by Ali Hertica published in the Kosovo daily Bota Sot.
