PANORAMA: The political character of orthography
“The standardization and unification of the orthography of the Albanian language is not just a linguistic scientific issue, but above all a political issue conditioned historically by the Austrian imperial-colonist and local national-communist goals.
The unification and standardization of the Albanian language has always had clear political goals. With the early stages of the national movement, the Bitola Congress in 1908 opened the path for the efforts of the renaissance for unification of the language and writing in the war with the Ottoman administration, which with all means tried to hinder this process, whereas the first state and administrative efforts for unification of the Albanian language were carried out by the diplomatic network and the Austrian military administration within what is known as the Albanian Literary Commission, established in 1916 in Skadar”, is said in the article by Albert Doja titled ”The political character of the orthography”

SHENJA: Orientalism and the Albanian identity
“If the national identity of the Albanians is partially based on the orientalist premise of the East-West conflict, does that mean that the emancipation and other social Albanians should not be based on nationalism, but only on universal ideas (for example, human rights)? I think that the nation actualizes the universal ideas (freedom, equality, citizenship) in a given culture and the national identity should be pushed towards political union of the Republic of Albania with Republic of Kosovo. The national identity, like all other identity, is not closed to changes, and changes also take place through revision of the criticisms of its history. I particularly like the quote from the essay “What are the Illuminati” by philosopher Michel Foucault, to whom I gave the epigraph of the book “Flight from the East, writes Enis Sulstarova in the column „Orientalism and the Albanian Identity“.
