A GullivAir Airline plane after taking off in Sofia will land in Skopje on Friday at 9:40 am, which will mark the first Skopje-Sofia flight. A Macedonian delegation, led by Minister of Transport Blagoj Bochvarski, and Bulgarian delegation led by Transport Minister Nikolay Sabev, will arrive in Skopje on the plane alongside tour operators from both countries, news agency MIA reported.
After landing they will hold meeting at the MPs’ Club, which will focus on discussing opportunities and defining details concerning the airline’s operations in the future.
A regular airline should be established next month. At the same time, tourist arrangements should also be defined to help increase the number of visits from tourists from both countries.
The meeting is to be followed by press statements at the MPs’ Club at 1:30 pm. Minister Bochvarski attended a meeting of the Macedonian-Bulgarian working group for cooperation in infrastructure, transport and communications in Sofia on Thursday.
During the meeting, both sides agreed to increase the quota of licenses to 1,500 annual licenses for transport of goods to and from third countries. Moreover, working group has made major progress in the talks on full liberalisation of transport of goods, the Ministry of Transport and Communications said in a press release. The flight connecting the capitals of North Macedonia and Bulgaria is the first concrete step in the cooperation announced by Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski and his Bulgarian counterpart Kiril Petkov after their first meeting in January in Skopje. On January 25, the countries’ governments held a session in Sofia and signed two documents to strengthen the two countries’ infrastructural connection, on the Skopje-Sofia airline and the Railway Corridor VIII.
