Bulgaria is an active member of NATO and as such can not be subject to foreign decisions, he told BTA Minister of Defense Stefan Janev in the first interview after taking over the leadership of the MoD.
According to him, Bulgarian politicians must learn to act as an entity in relation to the need to protect the national interest and to align with the common interest at NATO level.
Janev commented on his position, published a few days ago on Facebook, regarding the possible deployment of additional NATO troops in Bulgaria and specified that he had expressed a personal position as Minister of Defense.
“This is not yet a national position and from this point of view it should not be speculated that it is an official position of Bulgaria at the moment,” he said.
– My appeal is for the national position to be well argued, in accordance with the national interest and of course in accordance with the common interests of NATO collective security, said Stefan Janev.
The Minister of Defense of Bulgaria stressed that its own capacities should be developed, reminding that as a NATO member, the country is committed to that plan.
