No new measures for the holidays

A total of 222.333 covid-diagnosed persons have been registered in the country so far. The new variant omicron is rapidly spreading both in the world and in the neighborhood, although no case has been registered in our country yet. According to the authorities, vaccination remains the only way out of the pandemic, and no new additional measures are announced during the holidays.

According to the report of the Ministry of Health, 269 new cases of Kovid-19 were registered yesterday, out of 3.449 tests performed. Fifteen died and 15 recovered patients were registered.

So far, a total of 1.562.088 tests of Covid-19 have been performed in the country. The total number of Covid-diagnosed persons since the beginning of the epidemic is 222.333. The number of recovered patients is 209.291, the number of deaths is 7.868. There are a total of 5.174 active cases.

A new variant of the virus, omicron, is spreading rapidly around the world. Yesterday, the first case was confirmed in neighboring Serbia, with a woman from Botswana. Authorities in Serbia reported that the woman was negative when entering the country, was isolated and taken and samples were taken, one of which was positive. They called that there is no reason for panic so far and that the situation is being monitored and controlled. Otherwise, Serbia is the 64th country in which the new strain is registered.

According to preliminary data from the World Health Organization (WHO), the omicron strain of coronavirus may reduce the effectiveness of vaccines against Covid-19, but this species is less dangerous than the delta strain.

Albania also confirmed the first two cases of omicron yesterday. Existing anti-drug measures remain in force in Albania, including curfew introduced in mid-November last year.

Turkey, meanwhile, has begun mass-producing a domestically developed vaccine against Covid-19 – “Turkovak”, after receiving permission for emergency use from health authorities.

Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said yesterday that a domestically developed Turkish coronavirus vaccine, Turkovak, had been approved for immediate use.

Some countries have also introduced new measures to protect against the rapid spread of the virus. New measures come into force in Greece today.

Specifically, in Greece, the recommendation for tourists to be tested on the second and fourth day after arrival takes effect today. Mandatory mask both outdoor and indoor, mandatory double mask or KN95 in supermarkets and public transport, cancellation of all public gatherings for the holidays and strong recommendation for testing before the holiday gatherings, are the new measures of the Greek Government that come into force in Greece.

As for our country, new additional restrictive measures during the New Year holidays are not announced.

Recently, the Minister of Health, Venko Filipce, stated that there will be no new measures, and also some of the kovid centers are being closed, and the entire internal clinic is returning to normal.

According to Filipce, the current restrictive measures in anticipation of the New Year holidays are sufficient given that, as he said, such gatherings in public places are everywhere and before the New Year.

The Minister believes that the culmination will be reached during the New Year holidays and then it will all subside.

According to Filipce, it is not possible to predict whether any variant of the virus will contribute to the worsening of the epidemiological situation, but as he said, emphasis is placed on vaccination, because according to studies, the third dose increases the effectiveness against the latest strain omicron.

Regarding the vaccinated, the Minister believes that the percentage is high, but also that the interest has decreased.
