Osmani: We expect in the coming days to have concrete proposals from Sofia

Osmani for “EUObserver”: It is in Bulgaria’s interest for the region to succeed, we are not in a phase to fight
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The EU Council is awaiting Bulgaria’s decision, with 26 member states making the decision to start negotiations. We are all waiting for Bulgaria to lift the veto, and our communication continues. We expect that in the coming days there will be some concrete steps in terms of exchanging proposals, we are waiting for a meeting of experts from the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs to meet and bring those positions even closer with opportunities to find solutions, and then the EU enters with proposals. the presidency and thus complete the whole package, Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani said today whether there is a real chance for a solution by the end of the year.

He believes that if the weight of the moment is understood, 14 days are quite enough based on what we have done so far, to reach an agreement. However, it takes two sides to reach that agreement, so we can expect what will be the position of Bulgaria after expressing our views.

– The very announcement of forming a political government in Sofia will significantly facilitate the process. We had a situation in the year when this process had to be unblocked, we had three elections in one year in Bulgaria and the inability to form a government, which prevented normal communication between two political governments and the very announcement that they are serious about forming a coalition political government gives optimism that this issue leads to a solution. We did not interrupt the communication with the technical government, added Osmani at the press conference at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to present the budget of the Ministry planned for 2022.

The Minister informs that these days We are working intensively on defining our answer to “five plus one points” and expects in the coming days in communication to respond to those proposals and to be the basis for the next round of talks between experts from the two Foreign Ministries.

– The moment of involvement of the political government will be crucial, but we must have some preparation to continue further at the political level to resolve the issues. We are still working with the hope of December, to reach that deadline, although even after the 14th Slovenian presidency has the right to convene an extraordinary meeting of ministers for Europe to make the decision any day until December 31 or in the first weeks of January the French presidency also it is not related to a specific formal meeting of EU foreign ministers, explained Osmani.

To work as if every day is our option but the political government in Bulgaria is of course an important component in that regard.

– If this process of communication is intensified, first at the level of experts from both ministries, through exchange of views also through the two MFAs, and all this is followed by political communication between two political governments or the president who has already been elected in Bulgaria. , I think a solution can be found. According to the topics we are discussing, according to the proposals that are being exchanged, I think that there really is room for finding a solution. We are simply not so far away that we can not now intensify that communication and use the moment that is very important. And the moment is important because the context is not further improving in terms of the possibility of finding a solution and Bulgaria increasingly understands that it is as important for us as it is for them, added Osmani.
