We won’t vote for the resolution put forward by VMRO-DPMNE regarding the negotiations with Bulgaria if the name [of the country] remains as it is now in the document, Prime Minister Zoran Zaev said responding to a journalist’s question.

“It isn’t a matter of spite, it is out of principle because the Constitution is involved. It’s unheard of the prime minister, the ruling majority and the institutions of the system to vote against the Constitution. It could send a message that we’re undermining the whole system,” Zaev said on Tuesday.

Asked whether SDSM will endorse the resolution, which has been backed by the Parliament Speaker including the proposed formulation of the name, he said it is important that there’s a general agreement over the essence and content of the resolution.

Zaev reiterated that the ruling majority, as a representative of state institution, cannot back something against the Constitution or the law ratifying the Prespa Agreement.

There have been talks with the largest opposition party VMRO-DPMNE, he said, aimed at finding a solution and it was concluded that the process should resume all the while it is in line with the Constitution and the law.

“We will endorse a document VMRO-DPMNE will put forward, but we expect them to demonstrate flexibility so as to avoid both the institutions and the ruling parties to be in a position to break the Constitution,” PM Zaev told reporters.
