Minister of Interior Oliver Spasovski met Wednesday with French Ambassador Cyrille Baumgartner and Sophie Hatt, head of the International Cooperation Directorate within the French Ministry of Interior, signing the protocol on implementation of the agreement for return of persons illegally residing on their territory (readmission agreement).
The agreement’s entry into force will facilitate the management of illegal migration, fight against cross-border crime but also terrorism threats, which is of enormous importance for countries affected by migrant influx, but also facilitate the procedure of returning persons who reside illegally, the Ministry of Interior said in a press release.
Minister Spasovski thanked the French Ministry of Interior for the trainings, seminars and other type of support in the field, which took place uninterrupted despite the challenging circumstances arising from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Spasovski also expressed gratitude for the French support to North Macedonia’s EU accession aspirations, reads the press release.
